IBJJF Notice: 2018 Austin International Open – Disciplinary Course of Action

As an IBJJF policy, disciplinary actions are dealt with internally between the organization and the subject/party and usually, any sanctions applied are not announced publicly (by the organization). However, due to the severity of the events that unfolded at the 2018 Austin International Open and the negative impact one person’s actions can have on the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, IBJJF feels that in this instance it would be appropriate to come forward publicly about the incident and our actions.

As a preventative measure, due to the unimaginable rage exhibited by a single individual towards an athlete participating in the 2018 Austin International Open, that individual has been suspended (effective immediately) from any activity with the organization in the form of event coaching, athletic competition and access to membership until the organization comes to a conclusion on how to properly address this situation. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a wonderful tool for self-enrichment that has helped to improve so many lives, and behavior like that will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
