Athlete rankings are based on the points that competitors accumulate from placing first, second, or third, in IBJJF tournaments.

The current Grand Slam season consists of the most recent editions of each Grand Slam event. After a Grand Slam event occurs, the season updates and that same Grand Slam event from the previous year goes down by a weight of one. For example, after Pans occurs, the current Grand Slam season will include the most recent Brazilian Nationals, World Championship, Europeans, and upcoming Pans. Once Brazilian Nationals occurs, the season will update to include the most recent World Championship, Europeans, Pans, and subsequent Brazilian Nationals.

Points received from the current season and previous two seasons are included in the total ranking points. Points received from three seasons ago and earlier are not included.

Points are only valid for the age division and belt rank in which they are received and are non-transferable.

Points earned in different weight divisions of the same age and belt division are all counted towards the total ranking.

Points are not affected by a change of academy or professor.

Points received by athletes alone in their division will still count towards the athlete’s individual ranking.
