2022 Dallas Open Results and Standout Performances

3/28/2022 By: Danny O'Donnell

The IBJJF returned to the NYTEX Sports Centre for the 2022 Dallas International Open with gi and no-gi divisions. The black belt brackets were full of some of today’s top competitors representing their teams to build their ranking ahead of the upcoming grand slam events. Black belt competitors included Lucas Pinheiro, Danielle Alvarez, Vedha Toscano, Andy Murasaki, Melissa Stricker, and Horlando Monteiro.

The gi divisions took place on Saturday March 5th. In the adult male light feather division, Keven Carrasco of Ares BJJ took gold after being seeded fifth in an eight-person bracket. In the medium-heavy division Horlando Monteiro of Kimura BJJ took gold submitting two of his three opponents. Andy Murasaki took double gold for a second weekend in a row, beating Andre Porfirio of Fights Sports after winning the middleweight division earlier in the day.

LEAD BJJ’s Danielle Alvarez won two matches to win gold in the adult female middleweight division. Larissa Dias of MJN Jiu-Jitsu won her weight class and then beat Vehda Toscano in the final of the open class to take double gold. Although she is a relatively new black belt, she’s already had success in her new division and will look to carry that momentum into the upcoming grand slam events.

2022 Dallas International Open team results:

  1. LEAD BJJ
  2. Six Blades Jiu-Jitsu
  3. GF Team

On Sunday March 6th the no-gi divisions took place and it was Vedha Toscano who came away with two gold medals after winning one match in the medium-heavy division and two in the adult female open class. Austin Oranday of Alliance won gold in the adult male open class, his first open class gold as a black belt.

2022 Dallas International No-Gi Open team results:

  1. Brazilian Top Team
  2. LEAD BJJ
  3. CheckMat

The next event will be the Indianapolis International Open with gi and no-gi divisions taking place on March 12th and 13th.
