2022 IBJJF Indianapolis International Open Results: PSF Wins Gi and No-Gi Titles

By: Danny O'Donnell

The IBJJF Indianapolis International Open took place on March 12th and 13th from the Capitol Sports Center with gi and no-gi divisions. Black belt adult jiu-jitsu athletes registered to compete included Livio Ribeiro, Carlos Oliveira, Jessica Swanson, Bruna Ricalde, Austin Oranday, Sebastian Rodriguez, Alexandre Molinaro, Kauan Barboza, and Haisam Rida.

The gi divisions took place on Saturday March 12th. In the adult male light feather division, Carlos Oliveira of GF Team took gold in the gi after placing 3rd last weekend in Dallas. In Indianapolis, Carlos defeated Suraj Budhram and Livio Ribeiro to reach the top of the podium. Sebastian Rodriguez of Unity Jiu-Jitsu won medium-heavy gold, his first IBJJF gold medal as a black belt. Igor Schneider of Dream Art had a fantastic day, capturing two gold medals. In the black belt adult ultra-heavy division, Igor defeated Ismael Dos Santos Lima. In the open class, Igor had three matches, defeating Sebastian Rodriguez of Unity Jiu-Jitsu, Charles Murdock of PSF, and Austin Oranday of Alliance.

There were multiple black belt adult athletes who competed in both the gi and no-gi divisions. Alexandre Molinaro of Carlson Gracie Team took gold in the lightweight division in the gi and in the middleweight division in no-gi. Last weekend’s Dallas International open no-gi open class champion Austin Oranday repeated that feat in Indianapolis. Austin’s no-gi open class gold medal was his second on the weekend as he also won the middleweight division in the gi the day before.

The standout of the entire event was Janine Mutton of Cicero Costha International. Janine made her black belt debut and achieved the best results possible. In the gi she won two matches to take gold in at lightweight. Following her impressive performance in her division, Janine entered the open class where she won two more matches to earn her second gold medal on the day. On Sunday, Janine won one match in the middleweight division and another in the open class, bringing her total gold medal count to four for the weekend.
