This year’s Jiu-Jitsu CON tournament featured many of the world’s best gi and no-gi competitors across every division. The two star event offered more ranking points and more prestige than ever before and the competitors stepped up their games accordingly.
InFight JJ’s Gabrielli Pessanha has been one of the most dominant athletes in jiu-jitsu in recent years. In 2022 she won double gold at every major event and she did the same in Vegas. At super heavy Gabrielli won two fights. In the open class she won one more to go 3-0 on the day. “In my weight class I had two fights and two submissions. This is my first time here in Las Vegas. I like this event. It’s amazing. This event is amazing because I love jiu-jitsu and I’m very happy to be part of this.”
Another #1 ranked adult competitor also had an amazing showing at Jiu-Jitsu CON. Fellipe Andrew of Alliance won double gold in the gi and placed second at super heavy in no-gi. “It was really nice to fight at Jiu-Jitsu CON. It’s the biggest event that I’ve seen in my whole life. My division was tough. In my weight class I had two fights and two submissions, a reverse triangle and a kata gatame. I’m happy because I’m trying to improve my mount position.”
For the first time since winning his second World title back in June, Tainan Dalpra returned to competition in Las Vegas. He had two matches in the middleweight division, finishing his first with a triangle setup from the x-guard and his second with a toe hold. Tainan wasn’t the only Art of Jiu Jitsu competitor to take home gold. Pablo Lavaselli also made it to the top of the podium in the lightweight division. After racking up three wins, he advanced to the final against Danilo Moreira of Ares. It was a close match until just over six minutes in, when Pablo took the back off of a guard pass and secured a match ending choke. Lastly, Jessa Khan won light feather gold. She was victorious over two tough opponents and added another gold medal to the AOJ team’s results.
Another team that had a stellar performance was Atos Jiu-Jitsu. Medium-heavyweight Rolando Samson took first place in gi and no-gi, winning a total of five matches on the weekend. 2020 Pan Champion Ronaldo Junior went up to heavyweight in the gi, where he submitted all three of his opponents.
Gabriel Almeida of CheckMat was the standout competitor of the Jiu-Jitsu CON No-Gi. With two matches and two submissions, he started his day taking gold in the heavyweight division. Gabriel continued his streak of dominance in the open class, winning three more matches, all by way of submission. The double gold capped off a great weekend for the CheckMat competitor, who also won gold at World Master the day before.
TAC Team BJJ’s Claire North was the standout female no-gi competitor. She won one match in the middleweight division and two more in the open class to secure double gold.
