The fifth edition of the Master International Europe went down on Saturday April 29th and Sunday April 30th. Gracie Barra, who won team titles in 2017, 2018, and 2022, added another title to their collection as they won first place for males. Cicero Costha Europe won the female team title, the first time they had won it at this event.

IBJJF Hall of Fame member and 8X World Champion Michelle Nicolini returned to competition at the 2023 Master International Europe. Michelle competed at the event last year, getting silver in her weight class and gold in the open. This time around she had a flawless performance. Michelle had four fights, two in the lightweight division and two in the open class. She managed to finish all of her matches by submission, putting on one of the best performances of the event.

The master 2 open class champion was Igor Silva of GF Team. Igor first competed in the ultra-heavy division, where he took second after losing the final to Leandro Pedrosa. Igor commented on his run to open class gold. “I won my first match by submission with a triangle. In the semifinal I won 6-2 and in the final I had another submission, this time with a flying armbar.”

Yoski Suto of Impacto BJJ was the standout master 3 competitor. He touched on his performance at the event and the level of jiu-jitsu across Europe. “I was European Champion in January of this year in Paris. I won the medium-heavy division and took silver in the absolute. The level of this European Masters was very good, I had three fights in the category and three in the absolute, all of them with high level athletes. Some of them are in the federation ranking. This competition was important to accumulate points and prepare me well for the Worlds. This was my second time competing in this event. In 2019 I also won weight and absolute in the middleweight master 2 category and this time I wanted to challenge myself in a new category.”

In the Master 4 divisions, Bernardo Pitel of BJJ Revolution Team won two matches at featherweight and two more in the open class to take double gold.
