Anna Rodrigues is one of the most accomplished active competitors on the scene. She currently hold two World titles, three Pan and European titles, a Brazilian National title, and a Pan No-Gi title, going undefeated in her weight class in IBJJF competition. We went back and looked at Anna’s black belt career and did a deeper dive on her results in 2023 to show just how dominant of a career she’s had thus far.

2023 Accomplishments

This year Anna has been off to an incredible start. In her first event of the year, the Europeans, Anna competed in the featherweight division, where she had two fights and two submissions. It was the start of her campaign to take over the featherweight division, a journey she continued at the Pans. There she had three more fights, submitting two of her opponents.

2023 Points Breakdown

Throughout Anna’s five victories in 2023, she passed the guard four times, scoring a total of twelve points, 60% of her total for the year. Though she’s finished four of her five matches with chokes from the back, Anna only scored points for one back take as many of her chokes were set before she secured hooks.

2023 Submissions Breakdown

All of Anna’s four submissions in 2023 have come via choke from the back, which has proven to be the most effective submission at black belt through our studies of the major gi championships. At the the Europeans and Pans, 50% of the submissions from the quarters through the finals came via choke from the back, showing the effectiveness of both the strategy to take the back and the finishing potential from the position.
