The city of Chicago once again played host to an amazing showcase of jiu-jitsu talent as the IBJJF returned for the Chicago Summer Open. This marked the second time the Windy City played host to an event in 2023, and it certainly did not disappoint. TAC Team BJJ was a force to be reckoned with as they secured both the gi and no-gi overall team titles. Their performance solidified their reputation as one of the premier associations in the Midwest.

One of the standout athletes from TAC Team was Jessica Buchman, a seasoned black belt who earned the top spot in both the gi and no-gi divisions. Jessica showcased her prowess in all her matches, displaying technical jiu-jitsu and strategy throughout the event. In the gi division, she emerged victorious after winning a match at super heavyweight and two more matches in the open class. Her tenacity was equally evident on Sunday, where she clinched the gold in the middleweight division without the gi.

SAS Team's Jose Inacio Dos Santos also put on a stellar performance in Chicago, capturing both the gi and no-gi open class divisions. He had a very busy weekend, competing in three divisions and winning a total of seven matches throughout his campaign.

Another athlete who made his mark on the competition was Lucas Brito from Gracie Barra. Competing in the middleweight category, Lucas exhibited a tremendous level of skill and precision, winning all four of his matches over the course of the weekend. His dominant performance proved that his skills were transferable between both gi and no-gi.
