Fabricio Andrey Brazilian National Interview

We sent over a list of questions to the #1 ranked Featherweight in the World, Fabiricio Andrey, on his thought for the upcoming Brazilian Nationals tournament taking place in 2 weeks. It's his first IBJJF tournament back since winning the World Championship in December 2021. Here are the interview questions and answers:

  1. How many times have you competed at Brasileiros and what were your results?

Fabricio Andrey: "I’ve competed at Brazilian Nationals four times. The first time I was a juvenile, the second time was when I was an adult blue belt, the third time I was a purple belt, and the last time was this past year as a black belt. I won all four times that I competed at Brazilian Nationals."

  1. Who are some of the athletes you anticipate fighting at Brasileiros?

FA: "I think I’ll fight the Sodre brothers, Samuel Nagai, and Kennedy. There are a lot of names, but I think these are the hardest ones."

  1. What does it mean to you to compete in Brazil? How is competing in Brazil different than competing in the US?

FA: "The feeling of fighting in my country is special. The energy at Brazilian Nationals is unique. The difference in my opinion is in Brazil the competition becomes harder than in the USA because unfortunately we have a lot of strong guys who don’t have the visa to compete in the USA."

  1. What is your training routine like and how will you prepare for Brasileiros?

FA: "My daily routine is a secret. But I don’t change my preparation. I just make some adjustments and I see what’s going to happen."

  1. Can we expect to see you competing at the 2022 Worlds?

FA: "At lightweight our best players are Luiz Paulo and Alessandro Botelho. At middleweight we have the beast Mica Galvão. You already know him. At light feather we have our baby shark Diogo Reis. And at rooster weight we have Nathanael Fernandes."

Catch Fabricio Andrey back in action at the Brazilian Nationals taking place May6th*-14th in São Paulo Brazil where he will try to keep his undefeated streak at this event..
