Gabriel Galvão Prepares for His Biggest Test Yet at The Crown
On November 17th Gabriel takes on The Crown middleweight division.
The Crown, hosted by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, is known for featuring the best of the best in jiu-jitsu. This year, the middleweight division is stacked with world-class talent, including two-time World Champion and 2023 Crown Champion Tainan Dalpra, and World No-Gi and European Champion Andy Murasaki. But among these accomplished athletes is a rising star ready to make his mark in Gabriel Galvão.
Gabriel's journey in jiu-jitsu began at just 10 years old in the small town of Bahia, Brazil. Inspired Sergio Rios, who was also from the same region, Gabriel found in jiu-jitsu not just a sport but a calling and a sense of purpose. “Seeing Sergio leave the countryside and conquer the world was one of the main reasons I pursued jiu-jitsu as a career,” Gabriel shares. “Jiu-Jitsu is what makes me feel alive. I couldn’t choose another path.” This passion has carried Gabriel from his hometown to some of the biggest stages in the sport.
One of Gabriel’s standout performances came at the 2024 World Championships, where he won the open class division as a brown belt. Competing in the medium-heavyweight category, Gabriel had four matches, submitting all of his opponents. “It was great to fulfill a childhood dream,” he reflects, “but the icing on the cake will be when I become a World Champion at black belt.” That day held even more significance as Gabriel received his black belt on the podium, a pivotal moment in any jiu-jitsu athlete's career.
Now competing as a black belt, Gabriel knows the road ahead is more challenging than ever. But with each competition, he's growing stronger and more focused. “The black belt really is challenging,” he admits, “but I’m making the most of each competition to demonstrate increasingly efficient jiu-jitsu.”
For Gabriel, this next phase isn’t just about winning titles; it’s about evolving his game and proving he belongs at the highest level of the sport.
Gabriel is excited for the opportunity to compete in The Crown, an event that draws some of the best competitors in jiu-jitsu. His focus remains on delivering a performance that shows off his aggressive and submission-focused style. “I always try to finish my fights,” he says. “At The Crown, it couldn’t be any different. You can expect some beautiful jiu-jitsu to watch.”
Facing the likes of Tainan Dalpra and Andy Murasaki, Gabriel understands the magnitude of the challenge ahead. “The card is incredible with experienced fighters who are already at the elite of the sport,” Gabriel notes. “There are several names I’ve always wanted to test myself against. I can’t wait to step on the mats.”
While Gabriel is excited about every potential matchup, there’s one that stands out to him the most, a final against Tainan Dalpra, the reigning Crown champion and one of the biggest names in jiu-jitsu today. “A final with Tainan would be incredible,” Gabriel explains.
As he prepares for November 17th, he remains focused, driven, and grateful for the opportunity to compete on such a prestigious stage. “I want to thank the organization for giving me this opportunity,” he says. “See you on the 17th.”
