Henrique Ceconi Looks To End The Year With A Bang At The Absolute Grand Prix

At the 2022 Pan No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Garland, Texas, Henrique Ceconi put on one of the best performances of his career. He defeated four elite black belts using a combination of takedowns and submission skills to win his second major open class no-gi title of 2022. Earlier this year, Henrique also won gold in the open class at the Brasileiro Sem Kimono. “I feel that 2022 has been the best year of my life in terms of results and competitions. I hope to close the year with the Absolute GP and the No-Gi World titles.”

Although Henrique has had many of his best results without the gi, he’s also had good results in the gi. In 2019, he took second at the Brazilian Nationals and third at the Europeans. And while Henrique admits that he does prefer no-gi, he always keeps himself ready for a challenge. “I always try to keep myself prepared, whether with Gi or No-Gi. But I confess that I like no-gi much more.” Henrique’s skills that he’s developed in competition have benefitted him regardless of whether or not he’s wearing a kimono. His takedowns, in particular, have earned him victories throughout his career. “I think my wrestling is a very strong point,” said Henrique.

Now he’ll get the chance to compete for what would be the biggest title of his career at the IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix. “For me it is a great privilege to participate in this event. Being among the greats has always been my goal since jiu-jitsu became my profession. I feel honored to be present at this GP, and if I am, it’s because today I’m among the greats of the IBJJF.” The GP is filled with some of the best current competitors on the scene, including Kaynan Duarte, Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu, Gutemberg Pereira, Gabriel Oliveira, Francisco Lo, Rider Zuchi, and Elder Cruz.

As far as his training and preparation goes, Henrique is currently in the US training under the guidance of his long time coach. “I’m currently training in Cypress, TX, at my uncle and teacher Alexandro Ceconi’s gym. Being close to him does me a lot of good right now. It’s very good to be close to someone who has reached the top of the mountain.” You can catch Henrique and the rest of the competitors from the IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix on Friday November 18th, only on FloGrappling.
