The IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix brackets and order of fights are here. This GP includes not only the Absolute bracket, but also five incredible super fights. Here’s a look into Friday night’s matches.
Absolute GP Bracket
In the first match of the night, Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu takes on Henrique Ceconi. Cyborg is looking to add a second GP title to his trophy case while Ceconi is pursuing his biggest title in the gi. Both athletes have strong takedown and top games, so we could see a battle on the feet. Following Cyborg and Ceconi is Kaynan Duarte taking on Elder Cruz. As the most accomplished athlete in the bracket, Kaynan is expected to have a great performance. He’ll look to impose his well rounded game against Elder, who is making his black belt gi debut.
The third match of the night is between Rider Zuchi and Gabriel Oliveira, two athletes who have been having tremendous success on the IBJJF circuit in Brazil. Rider won his first major title this year and Gabriel has been winning many open tournaments since his 3rd place finish at the 2021 Worlds. Rider’s guard passing and back attacks and Gabriel’s sweeps and submissions will be some of their best tools heading into the match. In the last of the quarter final matches, Brazilian National absolute champion Gutemberg Pereira takes on submission specialist Francisco Lo. Gutemberg has had one of the best years of his career in 2022, finding his groove in competition and winning the majority of his matches by submission. Francisco will come into the bracket as the lightest competitor, and will look to utilize his dynamic submission seeking style to throw opponents off their game.
