Indianapolis International Open Results: Horlando Monteiro Submits Every Opponent In Return To Competition
The European Champion returned to IBJJF competition for the first time in nearly a year.
For the first time since the 2022 Dallas Open, European Champion Horlando Monteiro returned to competition. Horlando competes out of his academy Foundation BJJ in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and represents the Kimura International team. His road to double gold in Indianapolis included three victories, all by submission, in the heavyweight and open class divisions.
“I felt great competing at the Indianapolis Open after over a year away from the gi competitions. I had three fights and three submissions. I love competing under IBJJF. They have helped me so much to build my name in the jiu-jitsu community. You will see me more often back on those yellow and blue mats.”
#1 ranked no-gi middleweight Francisco Cuneo returned to competition on Sunday to compete without the gi. After suffering an injury last year and ultimately having to take time off to heal, Francisco won two matches to win middleweight gold.
Another highly ranked no-gi athlete with competed in Indianapolis was Dante Leon. Dante is a 2X World No-Gi Champion and is currently ranked #3 at lightweight and #6 at middleweight, as he often competes in both divisions. In Indianapolis, however, Dante went up to medium-heavyweight where he won his only match by submission.
Diego Ramalho of ZR Team, who is ranked #2 in th no-gi super heavyweight division, won two fights to win open class gold.
