International Master North America Results: Miyao, Hinger, & Megaton Win In The Pyramid

The Master North America took place at the Pyramid just ahead of the Worlds.

The 2023 Master International North America took place on Wednesday May 31st and kicked off a massive week for the IBJJF leading into the World Championships. Joao Miyao, Jamie Canuto, Josh Hinger, Megaton Dias and many other world-class black belts competed at the event.

2019 World Champion Joao Miyao returned to competition at the Master North America in the master 1 light-feather division. Joao had two matches, submitting his first match with his signature barataplata and winning his final via a 3-0 points margin.

In the master 1 middleweight division, GF Team’s Jamie Canuto won a three athlete division before entering the open class. In the absolute he had three more fights, meeting ZR Team’s Diego Ramalho in the final. The final was razor close with Jamie taking a referee’s decision victory after the match ended 0-0.

Maria Dulce Von Rosenthal was the black belt master 1 female open class champion. She had three matches in the absolute, defeating Luciane Dos Santos Silva in the final.

3X World No-Gi Champion Josh Hinger competed in the master 3 medium heavy and open class divisions. In his weight class, Josh submitted all three of his opponents. He was the #1 seed in the open class, where he was able to win three more matches by submission. He went 6-0 with a 100% submission rate to secure double gold.

Wellington “Megaton” Dias of Gracie Humaita went 4-0 on the day, winning two gold medals. He had only one match in the master 6 lightweight division, but had three in the open. Megaton is also set to compete at the Worlds this coming Saturday in the lightweight division.
