International Master South America Results: GF Team Brings Home Team Titles In Rio

The International Master South America was held in Rio de Janeiro on July 30th and 31st. The tournament is one of the most prestigious for masters athletes and brought out some of the best competitors in Brazil. Alliance, Atos, Brazilian Top Team, Carlson Gracie Team, CheckMat, Double Five, G13 BJJ, GF Team, Gracie Barra, and Nova Uniao all brought big teams to the event.

In the Master 1 divisions, the standout competitors were super heavyweights Romes Ramos

And Carina Santi. In his weight class, Romes had three matches. After winning his weight class, the Rio Grappling Club athlete won three more matches in the open class. Among his six wins were two submission finishes. Carina Santi of G13 BJJ had one victory at super heavy and three more in the open class, finishing the day with two gold medals.

At Master 2, Danuza Blanco  and Sergio Teixeira de Britos won open class gold. Danuza, who competes under Lethal Team BJJ, had two victories in the open class to win. Sergio had three matches at super heavy, winning his first two and taking third place. He’d come back strong into the open class, however, winning four more matches to win the open class title.

GF Team brought many high level competitors to the event who helped propel the association to male and female team titles. Black belt athletes who won gold for GF Team included Carlos  Raymundo (Master 3 feather), Sergio Miranda (Master 4 middle), Célia Regina Honorato de Oliveira (Master 4 female open class), Juan Carlos Cantanhede Martin (Master 5 light), Augusto Cesar Matheus de Oliveira (Master 5 medium-heavy), Wilson Adriano da Silva (master 5 super heavy), Nanci de Souza Carvalho (Master 5 female medium-heavy), and Adrien Roberto Domingues (Master 6 open class).
