Jaime Canuto is Set for World Masters and Jiu-Jitsu CON Seminar

On Friday September 2nd, Jaime Canuto will teach one of the four free seminars at Jiu-Jitsu CON alongside Julio Cesar and his wife Amanda Canuto. Jaime’s style in competition is based around always going for the submission, especially with his favored armbar from closed guard. It’s a seminar jiu-jitsu practitioners will not want to miss. But before he teaches his seminar, Jaime will take on the middleweight division at the World Masters. It’s a division that always has plenty of great competitors and this year will be no different. “Yeah I will be there at middleweight,” said Jaime. "And to be honest with you I know it’s gonna be a war, as always, and I will be ready for that.”
At the 2021 World Masters, Jamie’s debut at the tournament, he won the master 1 middleweight division, submitting his opponent in the final with a choke from the back. “It was my first time competing at Worlds Master and I was super nervous because I knew the level is super high and I wasn’t training enough in my mind, but I had such a great day!” We could also potentially see Jaime in the open class, a division where he’s been very successful. “My focus is going to be on my division. If I feel good I will sign up for the open class. We will see.”
Jaime has had a great year in competition thus far, winning his weight division and the open class at the 2022 Pans. In the final of the open class, Jaime defeated Sergio Rios of 99 Jiu-Jitsu. It was a close and exciting match, where Jaime won by a score of 4-4, 1-0 advantages. Although the results have been positive, Jaime has had to overcome some challenges in order to achieve them. “This year has been very challenging for me for training because I have been working on my gym. I also became a father and have so many things to do, but I’m doing my best to keep performing as best as I can.”
The World Masters is the biggest tournament of the year, with over 6,000 competitors expected to compete at the 2022 edition. It is one of the many tournaments at Jiu-Jitsu CON, the largest gathering of jiu-jitsu practitioners in the world. “I’m super excited for this event again and I can’t wait to be part of this. It’s going to be great. Hopefully I will be able to put the techniques I have been drilling to work during my matches. I also have many students that are going to compete over there. I have never competed at Jiu-Jitsu CON before but I’m very excited for the seminar, which I will be teaching over there alongside my wife Amanda Canuto.”
Be sure to catch Jaime’s matches and his seminar on Friday September 2nd. He’ll be teaching alongside Professor Julio Cesar and his wife, Amanda Canuto. Registration will open two hours prior to the seminar. There will be limited capacity and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
