Kaori Hernandez GP Super Fight Interview: “Our Jiu-Jitsu Has Evolved A Lot Since We Last Met”

In addition to the absolute bracket, the IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix event will also feature five super fights. In a black belt light-featherweight match, Kaori Hernandez of Unique Logic Jiu-Jitsu will take on Jessa Khan of AOJ. “I find it an honor to be invited to fight at the Absolute GP event. More than anything I am excited to be able to bring exposure to myself and my jiu-jitsu,” said Kaori. She’s looking to build on her already positive results this year after taking third at the 2022 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships.

Kaori is quite familiar with her opponent, Jessa Khan, as they’ve already had multiple matches against one another. “I believe Jessa is a good athlete. She has a well rounded game and I think it will be a fun match.” Though Kaori is familiar with Jessa’s game from their previous matches, she’s focused on her own game leading into this match. “I’m not looking to match Jessa’s game. I’ve always been a guard player. I don’t think that will change anytime soon. I seek the submission and I will be doing the same here, trusting my guard and hoping that it pulls me through.”

Both Kaori’s and Jesse’s jiu-jitsu games have evolved tremendously since their last match, something Kaori believes will be a big factor for this match. “Our jiu-jitsu has evolved a lot since we last met so I think it could go either way. I would obviously prefer it to play out in my favor, but at the end of the day I am mostly excited to have the opportunity to fight at such an important event.” You can watch Kaori take on Jessa Khan on Friday November 18th, only on FloGrappling.

The event is brought to you exclusively by Black Armor Kimonos.
