Key Figures From Gabrieli Pessanha’s Incredible Pans Campaign

Gabrieli Pessanha won her seventh straight double gold at a major championship at the 2023 Pans. Though she’s been dominant at all of these events, some of her best performances have come in 2023. At the Europeans, Gabrieli submitted all four of her opponents for a 100% submission rate. She continued to go after the finish in Florida, getting the tap in three of her five matches. Here are some of the numbers that show Gabrieli’s dominance from her latest performance at the 2023 Pans.

Super Heavy Champion - 2 fights, 2 submissions

In her weight class, Gabrieli had two matches, finishing both of them by submission. The semifinal was against Lama Qubbaj. Gabrieli scored eleven points in the match and finished with a shoulder lock variation from the back. Her final was a rematch against Mayara Custodio of CheckMat. This time Gabrieli scored six points with a sweep and mount and then finished the match the an ankle lock.

Open Class Champion - 3 fights, 1 submission

Gabrieli faced three tough opponents in the Pans open class. First was Elizabeth Mitrovic. She started the match with a takedown and progressed her way to the back, where she finished with a bow n’ arrow. Her semifinal was a rematch of the Europeans open class semifinal against Maria Malyjasiak. In Paris, Gabrieli submitted Maria with a toe hold in less than three minutes. This time she won on points, passing the guard three times and winning the match 11-0. Gabrieli advanced to the final to face the last opponent to beat her at black belt, 5X World Champion Ana Vieira of Aviv Jiu-Jitsu. She pulled guard and scored the only points of the match using a lapel sweep variation. The match ended 2-0 and earned Gabrieli her seventh straight double gold at a major championship.
