Master International Europe Results: Hall of Famer Michelle Nicolini Wins Open Class Gold

The Master International Europe took place on Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th in Barcelona, Spain. The event brought out some of the best masters competitors from all over the world. Gracie Barra, GF Team, Roger Gracie Academy, CheckMat, Matias Ribeiro Team, Cicero Costha Europe, and Rio BCN JJ all had many representatives fighting for gold medals.
In the female master 1 division, IBJJF Hall of Fame member Michelle Nicolini won the open class after placing second in the lightweight division. The eight time IBJJF World champion had two matches in the open class. She defeated Despoina Papadopoulou of Palestra Jiu-Jitsu in the semi-finals and then beat Amandine Layec of Gracie Humaita in the final.
At black belt master 1 male, it was Thiago Rodrigues of CheckMat who won the open class after taking third in the middleweight division earlier in the day. In the open Thiago had three matches, defeating Diogo Moraes of Near East University Jiu-Jitsu in the final. Bruno Matias Soares won double gold at black belt master 2, winning the ultra-heavy and open class divisions. At ultra-heavy, Bruno won two matches. He won another four matches in the open to go 6-0 on the day.
Middleweight Denis Mitchel took double gold at black belt master 3. The Fight Sports representative won three fights at middleweight and another three in the open class. Rita Tana of Waza team won the female open class at black belt master 3 after taking second in the middleweight division.
