New IBJJF Membership System - Important Information
Read more to find answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding membership.
The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation is thrilled to announce the launch of the new IBJJF Membership System. This new system brings important changes to the way membership is requested and documents are uploaded, especially for minor athletes (athletes younger than 18 years of age).
MINOR REQUESTS
Going forward, all MINOR accounts must be linked to an account of a PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN. This means that in order to register an athlete younger than 18 years old, parents have to create a Legal Guardian account with their own email address. This account will allow the parent or legal guardian to manage the athlete’s account. This is to ensure that our minor athletes are registering for events with their legal guardian’s consent.
What does this mean for minor athletes who ALREADY have an IBJJF account?
Minor Athletes who are already registered with IBJJF will not need to get their accounts linked until their next renewal and should be able to register for tournaments with open registration without any issues. However, please be advised that if you choose to get the account linked right away, once the Guardian Link is started, it must be completed or the account will be blocked until all the documents of the request are accepted.
Minor Athletes who wish to be part of IBJJF and are registering for the first time should get the prompt to register with their Legal Guardian account right away when adding their date of birth in the information section when creating an account.
Although Legal Guardians must open their own accounts, they do not need to have a membership under their name, nor is it required that an additional membership/registration fee is paid. This way parents who do not want to compete can only register to monitor their children’s registration. Parents who are also athletes can link their children to their pre-existing account.
With this new update, parents who have more than one child are able to register all their children under one email address and manage their profiles from one account.
The Guardian Link, just like the membership request, can take up to 5 business days to be approved, so be mindful of our tournaments’ deadlines when opening your request. The documents required for the Guardian Link are the following:
- Legal Guardian’s ID (any government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport)
- Athlete’s ID (if the athlete does not have a photo ID yet, parents can upload their Birth Certificate)
Please keep in mind that more documents could be required in certain circumstances where we are not able to define the kinship between the applicants who uploaded their documents.
Remember that you will NOT be able to access the athlete’s account or start their membership request before having the Guardian Link approved.
Once the guardian link is approved, you will be able to open a new membership request for the athlete.
As of June 2024, ALL ATHLETES can have their membership request approved by their professors online up to three days after the request was opened. If the professor does not approve it in three days, the request will expire and the athlete will have to upload a membership form in their application.
