The second New York Open of the year takes place at the David Mack Sports Complex this weekend. An exciting assortment of talent is preparing to clash on mats. Ascending prospects, active veterans, and standout master athletes come together to make for a fascinating event.

 

Dayvison Calado enters the New York Open as a top-10 seeded male athlete in the gi. Dayvison has seven Open event gold medals in 2026, and joins a super-heavyweight bracket where he will face Raphael Cesana in the finals.

Another top-10 ranked male athlete Alexandre ‘Lele’ Manara is back in action this weekend. Lele had a strong World Championship performance earlier this year, and recently returned to competition with a gold medal in New Jersey. 

 

Olivia Schauer stays active with a medium-heavyweight enlistment in New York. Olivia has had a strong 2026 season thus far posting five gold medals including an Asian Championship title. Olivia is slated to have a tough finals match with Naomi Sharp for the gold medal.

 

Three-time World Champion Larissa Dias looks to remain undefeated in 2026. Larissa has extended her incredible streak through the 2026 season thus far, as she looks to add another potential double-gold performance to her campaign.

 

As Pan No-Gi draws near, the New York Open features many elite level no-gi athletes. Specifically, Unity Jiu-Jitsu presents the jiu-jitsu community with a world-class collection of black belts at the New York Open.

 

Junny Ocasio of Unity remains the only competitor in the featherweight division. Junny is a former World No-Gi, Pan No-Gi, and European No-Gi Champion and represents the elite talent in the Unity ranks. 

Natan Chueng and Sebastian Rodriguez headline the medium-heavyweight no-gi division. Natan is coming off a fantastic World Championship performance that resulted in a silver medal. Sebastian Rodriguez has secured bronze medals at the last four World No-Gi events, including his 2021 No-Gi World Championship title. The two Unity athletes are the heavy favorites to reach the finals in New York this weekend.

Another world-class Unity athlete Devhonte Johnson returns to the competition mats. The former World No-Gi, Pan No-Gi, and European No-Gi Champion brings a wealth of experience and talent into the super-heavyweight division. Devhonte is an early frontrunner to capture double-gold in No-Gi action.

 

Brenda Larissa leads a tough three-competitor featherweight bracket. The Alliance veteran and former Brasileiro Champion remains the favorite to secure the gold medal, however, she will have her hands full with fellow contenders Lauren Sognefest and Cindy Ung.

 

Gabriele Schuck headlines the medium-heavyweight female division alongside Naomi Sharp. Naomi represents another high-level Unity athlete, while Gabriele remains the favorite to secure the division’s gold medal.

 

Maria Malyjasiak of Abmar Barbosa Association is the sole heavyweight no-gi athlete. Fans can expect Maria to enlist in open class competition, where she will present a number of challenges for anyone across from her.

 

With the 2026 World Master event just weeks away, the New York Open hosts a collection of formidable master athletes. These World Master hopefuls are undoubtedly utilizing this weekend’s event as an opportunity to iron out their game before laying it all out on the mats in Las Vegas early next month.

 

The three time World Master Champion Joao Miyao is enlisted in the light-featherweight division. As the sole competitor in the weight class it remains to be seen whether Joao will take the mats this weekend.

Malachi Edmond headlines a strong master 1 featherweight gi division. Malachi is a consistent Grand Slam event contender in the adult divisions, and makes this master 1 appearance with high expectations. It remains to be seen whether Malachi will enlist in World Master competition, but he will be in attendance alongside Elijah Dorsey to deliver an awesome seminar.

The #1 ranked female master 1 athlete in the world is prepared to compete at the New York Open. Michelle Marques of Team Forsa is the sole medium-heavyweight competitor, making her open class enlistment likely.

Bruno Braz is set to compete this weekend as a consistent master 3 fixture on the Grand Slam stage. Bruno represents Submit Your Friend Academy and will face Leandro Nascimento in the light-featherweight finals.
