Paris Fall International Open Results: CheckMat Wins Gi And No-Gi Titles In France

At the 2022 Paris Fall International Open, CheckMat once again proved that it is one of the top teams in Europe. The team won the European No-Gi the previous weekend and had another incredible showing in Paris. They brought 32 gi competitors and 16 no-gi competitors and took first in both events.

Among the standout competitors of the event were Ashley Bendle of Draig and Faris Benlamkadem of Roger Gracie Academy. Both competitors won their respective black belt open class divisions. Ashley commented on her performance as follows. “My matches were good, I managed to secure wins, both in the weight division and absolute via a rear naked choke from the back. It was great to get out there in a gi and be able to experiment with some of the new things I've been working on and still get the win.”

Roger Gracie Academy’s Faris Benlamkadem had this to say about his double gold medal performance. “I had five fights and managed to submit three of my opponents. I'm happy as this was my first double gold at black belt so it was good to get this one under my belt. I was able to implement things I’ve been working on in the gym in the build up to this competition and for the Europeans in January.”

In the no-gi divisions, it was Ashley Williams of Draig whose performance stood above the rest. Ashley managed to win his weight and the open class, despite only being a featherweight. His two victories at featherweight were followed by two more in the open class to take double gold.
