Roosevelt Sousa GP Super Fight Interview: “I Will Play As I Always Do, Always Looking For The Submission.”

Coming off a super fight to #1 ranked Fellipe Andrew, Roosevelt Sousa of Fight Sports is looking to get right back in the win column. Though the match with Fellipe was one of the best of the night, Roosevelt simply was not satisfied with his performance. “Whenever I do a super fight, I do my best to open up my game and put on a show for the public. Unfortunately I had a very high fever on the day of the fight and it really hampered my performance. Fellipe is a great champion. He took advantage of the best moments of the fight and came out with the victory. We will meet several times in the next events, and for sure it will be a great fight again.”

Now Roosevelt has a new match at the IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix, and it’s one that many people did not see coming. His opponent is Johnatha Alves, who is also coming off a match at the IBJJF FloGrappling GP.  Both athletes felt that they did not perform their best in their last matches and are going into this match looking to showcase their best jiu-jitsu. “I’m really excited for this fight. Johnatha is much lighter but he has a very high level of jiu-jitsu. It’s definitely going to be a great fight.” As a three-time Pan Champion, Johnatha has some of the most technical jiu-jitsu in the sport, which present a challenge for any opponent at any weight. “I believe he is a very complete athlete. He plays very well on top and bottom, but in fact Johnatha’s strongest point is his fight strategy.”

The strategy employed by each athlete is one of the most intriguing things about this match, as both will have to make adjustments to compensate for the size difference. While being bigger will be advantageous for Roosevelt in many ways, Johnatha will likely have more speed and will look to create advantageous angles from which to attack. Roosevelt commented on why he feels this is a great match. “I believe it will be a very attractive fight for the public because I will play as I always do, always looking for the submission.”

You can watch Roosevelt Sousa take on Johnatha Alves at the IBJJF Absolute GP on Friday November 18th. The event is brought to you by Black Armor Kimonos.
