Sao Leopoldo International Open Results: Black Belt Gold Medals Lead Alliance To Team Title

The Alliance team brought sixty seven athletes to the Ginásio Municipal Celso Morbach, the site of the 2022 Sao Leopoldo International Open. Though the volume of athletes may have been enough to win the team title, it was the individual gold medal performances that earned Alliance the top spot on the podium. Of the nine black belt divisions, Alliance took home gold in five of them, contributing to the two hundred and twenty five points scored by the team.

Black belt gold medal winners from Alliance included Vinicius Martins (medium-heavy), Gabriel Oliveira (heavy), Joao Neto (super heavy and open class), and Rafael Message (ultra-heavy). Heavyweight Gabriel Oliveira has been extremely active as of late and has had incredible results. In Sao Leopoldo, Gabriel won two matches to add another gold medal to his 2022 collection. In the lightweight division, #1 seed Gabriel Rollo won two matches. Gabriel scored a choke from the back in the semifinal and 4-2 points victory in the final.

Not only did Alliance have a great team performance in the gi, they also won a no-gi title in Sao Leopoldo. The points accumulated for the no-gi title came in the colored belt divisions as Alliance did not have any no-gi adult black belt champions this time around.

Equipe A’s William Rabuske Costa took home no-gi open class gold after two hard fought matches. Equipe A took third overall in no-gi, with Alliance and Nova Uniao Argentina taking first and second place, respectively.
