Atlanta Spring International Open Results: Max Gimenis Wins Gi & No-Gi Gold

The 2023 Atlanta Spring Open took place at the Georgia International Convention Center on Saturday May 6th and Sunday May 7th. Roberto Traven BJJ, Gracie Barra, and Alliance were the top teams of the event, as they all hit the top three spots for gi and no-gi divisions.
Max Gimenis of GF Team won all of his gi and no-gi matches in Georgia. He commented on his gi matches, stating “I had one in my division against Pedro “Big Mac.” He is a big guy who has a good lasso guard but I was able to pass his guard and tap him from the back. In the open class I had my first match against Italo Lima, an awesome guard player who gave me a very hard time. I passed his guard and tapped him from the back. The second open class match was with Pedro “Big Mac” again. I won this one by passing his guard. The final was against Diego Ramalho. We’ve fought since we were kids. I won by two advantages.” Max would go on to win two more matches the following day, taking gold in the no-gi absolute division.
Nova Uniao’s Jessica Cherman also had a fantastic day in Atlanta. She spoke about her three matches that led to two gold medals. “I had one division fight and two absolute fights. In the division fight I was down 3-0 and in the last two minutes I swept and took the back. It was 6-3 and I finished with a choke with thirty seconds left on the clock. In the first absolute fight I swept, took the back, and finished with a choke. The second absolute fight was a back and forth battle. I believe it was 6-6. I won by 2 advantages.”
Gabriel Sousa of ZR Team and Leonardo Saggioro of Brazilian Top Team also won gold in the featherweight and lightweight divisions, respectively.
