Floripa Fall International Open Results: Servio Tulio Leads Gracie Barra To Gi & No-Gi Titles
The Gracie Barra black belt takes on the medium-heavy division at Worlds in less than two weeks.
The Floripa Fall Open took place on Saturday May 20th and Sunday May 21st at the Complexo Esportivo Rozendo in Florianópolis, Brazil. Gracie Barra was the standout team at the event as they won titles in both the gi and no-gi divisions.
Servio Tulio was a big contributor to Gracie Barra's success, as he won medium-heavy gold with and without the gi. In his gi matches, Servio won via kneebar in the semi’s and by referee’s decision in the final. He had two finishes in no-gi, submitting his semifinal opponent with a rear naked choke and his final opponent with an americana from side control, ending his weekend with a 75% submission rate. Servio will compete in the medium-heavy division at the Worlds and will look to get his first title in the prestigious event.
“I just fought Floripa Open gi and no gi! I really think one helps the other. In the gi I submitted the semifinal with a leg lock. I was satisfied as I got back to attacking the legs. I used to do this a lot when I was a lower belt. The final was tough. Agnelo is tough and so strong. I displayed a nice guard with control but was not able to sweep him and ended up winning a referee’s decision. I fought a lot of tournaments this year to get the competition rhythm. It’s very good that I won the last one before Worlds to get pumped! I can’t wait for Worlds! The last two years I couldn’t perform well for several reasons and I am excited for this one.”

2022 light-featherweight World Champion Meyram Alves competed up a weight class in the featherweight division in Florianopolis. As one of the most exciting and dynamics fighters in the game today, Meyram was able to showcase some of the jiu-jitsu that has made him such a big fan favorite.
“I had some really good fights. I was happy to close out the category with my cousin Lucas Maquine. I also fought the absolute to help my friends get points for the Worlds. I want to show some really cool jiu-jitsu at the Worlds. I can't wait to fight and show my aggressive jiu-jitsu, always looking for the submission. I'm very happy to be part of Fratres. I've evolved a lot with everyone on the team and it's been a really cool experience.”

The male open class champion in the gi was Dream Art’s Lucas Alves, who commented on his matches over the weekend. “I won all my fights on points. I needed the points to qualify for the World Championship. I lost the semifinal at ultra-heavy weight but I had the support of great friends who encouraged me to fight in the absolute, where I managed to win gold. My next challenge is the World Championship in two weeks.”
Kauany Queiroz also took home open class gold in the gi, winning three fights to become champion. “I had four fights in total, one in my category and three in the absolute. They were very hard fights but thank God everything happened as planned. I just want to thank God first who takes control of any situation and according to my teacher and father CT Du Paraiba who makes my dream come true at any time. We are working to conquer everything I have been dreaming for 16 years!”
The no-gi absolute champions were Leonardo Gonclaves of Gracie Barra and Juliana Silva of Ceconi KMKZ. Leonardo has had great results in no-gi events in Brazil this year as he’s now won three double golds. His other double gold medal performances came at the 2023 Salvador and Rio Fall Opens.
