IBJJF FloGrappling Grand Prix Brackets and Order of Fights

The IBJJF FloGrappling Grand Prix brackets are order of fights are here. With the historic event just hours away, here’s a look into Friday night’s incredible matches.
Female Lightweight Grand Prix Bracket
In the opening round of the Female GP, Luiza Monteiro of Atos will take on Janaina Lebre of Gracie Humaita. Luiza comes into the GP with more experience than any of the other competitors, having received her black belt back in 2010. Janaina has had great results in 2022 and has proven she’s one of the best lightweights in the world, hitting the podium at Europeans, Pans, and Worlds. Luiza and Janaina last squared off at the 2021 World Championships in the qualifying rounds, where Luiza won a referee’s decision after a very close match where the two athletes traded sweeps.
Next up will be Anna Rodrigues vs. Mayssa Bastos. Anna is a 2X World Champion, winning the biggest title in the sport in 2021 and 2022 in the light feather division. Besides winning her second World title, Anna also challenged herself in other unique ways this year. She went to featherweight for the European and Pan Championships, taking first in both events. She also just recently won her first major no-gi title, bringing home lightweight gold at the Pan No-Gi. Anna and Mayssa last competed against one another in the final of the 2021 Pans, where Anna won a very close match by a single advantage. Both athletes play equally well on top and bottom and are unafraid to take risks to get to dominant positions.
Male Medium-Heavy Grand Prix Bracket
The third fight of the night and the first of the medium-heavy GP will be Ronaldo Junior vs. Manuel Ribamar. Ronaldo is a black belt Pan Champion and has added important medals to his collection in 2022, including bronze medals and the Pans and Worlds and gold medals at American Nationals and Jiu-Jitsu CON. Manuel Ribamar is a 2019 European Champion and a World and Pan No-Gi Champion. Coming off a Pan No-Gi gold medal, Ribamar will look to continue his winning streak against the always dangerous Ronaldo Junior.
After Ronaldo Junior and Manuel Ribamar square off, 2018 World Champion Isaque Bahiense will face 2021 Pan Champion Andre Porfirio. The two champions have yet to have a match at black belt as Isaque just recently started competing at medium-heavy. Isaque is known for having a highly refined top game and comes into matches with a great strategy. Andre Porfirio has a well rounded game, but excels from bottom position, often attacking foot locks. Their vastly different styles will provide an entertaining and technical encounter where the first athlete to take advantage of the others mistake will likely advance to the final.
Super Fights
After the first round of both GP’s have finished, Johnathan Alves of AOJ will take on Mathias Luna of CheckMat in the first super fight of the night. After battling many times in the colored belt ranks, Johnathan and Mathias will finally meet at black belt. Johnatha has developed a reputation as one of the best guard players in the world with highly developed back attacks and sweeps that lead into his pressure passing on top. Mathias Luna is a well rounded athlete who generally prefers to play from the top position, passing his opponent’s guards before attacking various submissions.
Upon the conclusion of the super fight between Johnatha Alves and Mathias Luna, the 3rd place GP matches will take place. Immediately following those matches will be the super fight between Roosevelt Sousa and Fellipe Andrew, a matchup of two of the best leg lock specialists in the sport. Although both athletes have world class jiu-jitsu in every position, their lower body submission have always stood out. Fellipe is the #1 ranked adult male black belt and won double gold at the first major gi event of 2022, the European Jiu-Jitsu Championships. Roosevelt’s first major tournament of 2022 was the Pans, where he took bronze in the ultra heavy and open class divisions. You can expect both athletes to be hunting for the submission for the entirety of the match.
As arguably the most dominant gi athlete in the sport right now, Tainan Dalpra of AOJ is constantly looking for new challenges. His entire black belt career up to this point has been spent in the middleweight division, where he’s won two World and Pan titles and a European title. For his super fight at the IBJJF FloGrappling GP, Tainan will move up to medium-heavy to face Rodrigo Lopes of Double Five. Rodrigo is an American National and Jiu-Jitsu CON silver medalist and has a great guard that he often uses to setup leg lock attacks. His style provides for a very interesting matchup in Tainan’s first official match at medium-heavy.
The final matches of the night will be the female and male GP finals. Go to FloGrappling.com to make sure you don’t miss any of these highly anticipated matches.
