Inaugural GP Champion Janaina Lebre Set To Take On 64 kg Division At The Crown
The Gracie Humaita black belt is the second confirmed athlete for The Crown's 64 kg division.
Janaina Lebre rose to jiu-jitsu prominence through years of hard work, dedication to her craft, and the willingness to always test her skills in competition. Her achievements have now led her to the IBJJF’s biggest professional event yet, The Crown, where Janaina will take on the 64 kg division. As a brown belt, Janaina won the Worlds, Pans, and American Nationals and was subsequently promoted to black belt in 2019. Her first major accomplishment at the black belt level came at the 2022 World Championships, where she made it all the way to the lightweight final. In a closely contested match, she narrowly missed out on the gold, losing to the two-time World Champion, Ffion Davies. Though she fell short of the ultimate prize, her performance put the jiu-jitsu community and the lightweight division on notice. In the fall of 2022, Janaina was invited to participate in the inaugural IBJJF Female Lightweight Grand Prix as a late replacement. She went into the event as an underdog, but ultimately emerged victorious, defeating two multiple time World Champions on her way to the title. With the win, Janaina became the first ever Female Grand Prix Champion. So far in 2023, Janaina won another silver medal at the World Championships and also won a super fight at the IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix in dominant fashion, getting a submission victory. Now, Janaiana will look to add another major title to her resume at The Crown, where she'll compete in the female 64 kg division. Will Janaina be crowned?
