Lightweight GP Champion Janaina Lebre Faces Emily Fernandez In Absolute GP Super Fight
Two of the lightweight divisions best will face off in a super fight at the IBJJF Absolute GP.
The latest super fight at the IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix has just been revealed, as Janaina Lebre of Gracie Humaita will take on Emily Fernandez of LEAD BJJ in a ten minute lightweight bout. Set to take place on Friday, September 1st, in the fight capital of the world, Las Vegas, Nevada, this lightweight showdown promises to be an epic clash of two of the divisions best talents.
Janaina Lebre has been making waves in the competition scene, highlighted by her breakout performance at the IBJJF FloGrappling Female Lightweight Grand Prix in 2022. The Gracie Humaita black belt was a late addition to the event and defeated not one, but two World Champions to become the inaugural Female Lightweight GP Champion. Though Janaina was already highly accomplished coming into that event, the performance really highlighted her true abilities on the mat.
What sets Janaina apart from her peers is her technical and aggressive style of fighting. She often uses the lapel guard from bottom position to both control and submit her opponents. While many athletes use the lapel guard in modern competition, Janaina uses it in a way to setup attacks. Every time she steps onto the mats, spectators are in for a treat as she displays her highly effective style of jiu-jitsu.
Standing across from Janaina will be Emily Fernandez, a black belt from LEAD BJJ who has been turning heads since her promotion in 2022. Emily has consistently put on great performances at black belt, securing victories in multiple IBJJF opens, including absolute divisions. Her closed guard game is one of her biggest strengths, showcasing her ability to use precise and fundamental jiu-jitsu at the highest level of the sport. Her well-rounded style makes her a formidable opponent for anyone in the lightweight division.
This super fight promises to be exciting and full of high level, technical jiu-jitsu featuring two fighters at the peak of their abilities. Make sure you don’t miss this super fight or the rest of the IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix card. The action goes down on Friday September 1st in Las Vegas. If you can’t be there in person, be sure to catch all the matches from this incredible event live on FloGrappling.
