Miami Fall International Open Results: Roosevelt Sousa Wins The Absolute Just Ahead of The Crown
The ultra-heavyweight competed in one last event before The Crown.
On Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, November 5th at the Miami-Dade County Youth Fairgrounds - Fuchs Pavilion in Miami, Florida, the IBJJF hosted the Miami Fall International Open. It was the second time the organization returned to Miami in 2023.
One of the best performances from the event came from Roosevelt Sousa. Roosevelt has been hard at work preparing for the IBJJF Crown, where he’ll take on the ultra-heavyweight category that also includes Erich Munis, Joao Gabriel Rocha, and Victor Honorio. He decided to compete in one more event before the Crown. Roosevelt won four matches on the day, showcasing his diverse range of skills against opponents of all sizes. You can watch Roosevelt at The Crown on FloGrappling on Sunday, November 19th.
Inacio Santos, who also competed at the New Orleans Fall Open the day before, was the no-gi absolute champion. He commented on his impressive display of grit, tenacity, and love for the sport. “I was excited to be able to compete in New Orleans and Miami back to back this weekend. It’s my first time competing in two tournaments in two different cities in the same weekend. In New Orleans I was able to win two matches in the open class in the gi, and went 2-1 in no-gi. In Miami I was able to win two matches in no-gi. And I’m excited to compete in Nashville next weekend.”
2022 World Champion Larissa Dias competed in the open class division at the Miami Fall Open. Larissa won two matches and demonstrated the techniques that helped her become a World Champion.
