Paris Spring International Open Results: Gracie Barra Wins Gi & No-Gi Titles
The IBJJF returned to France for the Paris Spring Open.
The IBJJF returned to Paris, the city that hosted the 2023 Europeans back in January, for the Paris Spring Open on Saturday May 13th.
Leon Larman of France won the lightweight division, submitting both of his opponents. He represents Focus Jiu-Jitsu, an academy that is based out of Portugal. Leon broke down his matches from Paris as follows. "The first match started with a double guard pull. I got up with the crazy dog grips and I immediately started to pass the guard. My opponent rolled to defend and I was able to take his back and submit him with a bow and arrow. And in my second match. I immediately tried to do a flying triangle that was very close. After that I was able to sweep him, pass his guard with a stack pass, take the mount, take the back, and submit him with the bow and arrow."
Claire-France Thevenon, another athlete based out of France, won a gold medal in the open class. She came into the bracket as the #1 seed, winning two matches to reach the top of the podium. "The IBJJF Paris Open tournament went very well for me. I won two matches in the open class, one against a young Brazilian athlete and the other against the incredible English fighter Laura Barker. I was so happy to win because, first, I never beat her and also because I’m from Paris. So it was great to succeed in front of my people."
In the medium-heavyweight division, Bradley Hill of Royal Jiu-Jitsu took first place. Bradley won his first match by points and his second by kneebar. With the gold medal, Bradley secured the ranking points needed to compete at the 2023 World Championships. Jackson Sousa of Cantagalo Jiu Jitsu London won the open class in the gi, going 3-0 in the division.
