Pedro Maia Announced As The Third Contender for The Crown’s Middleweight Division

The Six Blades black belt will look to win the biggest title of his career.

The third competitor confirmed for The Crown’s middleweight division is Worlds, Pans, and Brasileiros silver medalist Pedro Maia. Pedro is a Six Blades Jiu-Jitsu black belt, who has put the jiu-jitsu scene on notice in 2023. He was awarded his black belt in 2020 but didn’t compete in major IBJJF championships until 2022. 2023 has without question been the best year of Pedro’s career. His first major championship was the Pans, where he advanced to the middleweight final and earned a silver medal. He returned to action at the Brasileiros in Sao Paulo, again making the middleweight final and taking silver in his second consecutive major championship. For the 2023 Worlds, Pedro made the strategic decision to drop down to the lightweight division, another category that has no shortage of amazing champions. After battling through several tough matches and finishing two of them via submission, Pedro advanced to the final to take on 4X Pan Champion Johnatha Alves. Though he would lose the match on points, he proved that his skillset was just as effective in a new weight class. One of Pedro’s most effective weapons on the mats are his lapel chokes, submissions he’s executed successfully against a number of high level opponents. He’ll join Andy Murasaki and Jackson Nagai in the stacked middleweight division at The Crown. Will Pedro break through and win the most important title of his career? We will find out on Sunday, November 19th in Long Beach, California. If you can’t make it to Long Beach to watch The Crown live, be sure to catch the stream on FloGrappling.
