Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts all across the world are buzzing about The Crown, the IBJJF’s biggest professional event ever. The event is set to go down on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, at the iconic Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California. The final athlete confirmed to compete in the 70 kg division is 2023 featherweight World Champion Sam Nagai. Sam has long been considered a gifted competitor, with his first breakout performance coming at the 2018 Worlds as a purple belt. His achievements and skill he developed in the colored belts led to his black belt promotion in 2020 from Keiser Girao. The CheckMat featherweight jumped right into the fire at black belt, earning bronze medals at the Pans, Brasileiros, and Worlds. Prior to 2023, however, the elusive major championship gold medal remained just out of reach. All of that changed at the 2023 IBJJF World Championships. With five wins over some of the best featherweights in the World, Sam secured his first major championship gold medal and his first black belt World title. Since his historic victory at the Worlds, Sam has been on an unstoppable streak, going undefeated in IBJJF competition. He recently took gold at the Phoenix and Dallas Opens with seven straight victories, four of which came via submission. The Crown 70 kg division is now set with Sam Nagai, Isaac Doederlein, Fabricio Andrey, and Diego Pato all confirmed as contenders. Who will be crowned in this bracket of four World Champions? Tune in to FloGrappling on Sunday, November 19th to find out. See the following link for more information on this historic event.
