Purple Belt Prospects You Don't Want to Miss Going into No-Gi Worlds

Corbin Ratheau

A bright, high-potential young prospect from AOJ, Corbin enters the light-feather division, fresh off a roosterweight No-Gi World Championship win in 2024.  He employs a balanced strategy featuring aggressive passing, intricate guard play, and a relentless instinct to win.  Expectations are high for Corbin, who earned silver at the European Championships earlier this season, as he attempts to add a second World Title to his purple belt career.

Stuart Carmody

The Atos representative is seeking his third major title to cap off his 2025 no-gi season. Stuart impressed by winning gold at both the Pan and European Championships, additionally securing a bronze medal in the open division at the latter.  A dangerous and flexible guard player with an array of potent submissions, Stuart will need to be in peak form to navigate a deep 52-man featherweight bracket to claim his No-Gi World Championship honors.

Vitor Pantoja

The Melqui Galvão Jiu-Jitsu prospect may be relatively lesser known in the United States, but Vitor is a dangerous competitor in the purple belt heavyweight division. He possesses relentless wrestling and impressive guard passing technique, which have earned him Brasileiro and Sul-Americano gold this year.  Vitor aims to leverage his unyielding physicality in a bracket that includes Michael Heyliger, who is presumed to be his most significant challenge for the 2025 World Championship title.

Moussa Kadi

The #1 ranked no-gi purple belt is poised to conclude his exceptional 2025 no-gi campaign with a World Championship title.  Kadi has secured numerous double-gold honors this year, most notably at the American Nationals in June. The Unity Jiu-Jitsu standout carried that momentum into the major season, capturing European and Pan Championship titles. Kadi employs a high-level guard game, highlighted by a devastating straight ankle lock that his opponents seldom escape.  The medium-heavyweight division features 39 athletes, with Kadi's stiffest competition anticipated from Kade Ryan, Tyler Blasko, and Mark Gallegos.

Armin Douzali

Douzali brings his #2 no-gi purple belt ranking to Las Vegas for the World Championships. His immense physicality and pressure make him a formidable opponent for anyone in the super-heavyweight division.  Following silver and bronze medals at the European Championship and a double-bronze performance at the Pan Ams, Douzali is focused on a breakout performance in pursuit of a World title.  However, his division is stacked, with fellow watch-list athlete Henry Zachary, Pedigo Submission Fighting’s Luke Ruffo, and Luca Veras all contending for the championship.

Henry Zachary

The Detroit Jiu-Jitsu Syndicate athlete enters the tournament with significant confidence, holding the #5 no-gi ranking across all purple belts.  Henry's 2025 season has been stellar, marked by double gold at the Brasileiros along with a pair of silver medals at the Pan Championships.  His well-rounded attack, which seamlessly blends a strong standing game with dynamic guard play, establishes him as a dangerous contender in the talented super-heavyweight division. Armin Douzali, Luke Ruffo, and Luca Veras will undoubtedly present challenging matchups regardless of the bracket outcome.

Lara Oliveira

The light-featherweight purple belt division is loaded with young talent, and Lara is one of the favorites to win what promises to be an action-packed bracket.  Lara secured gold at Jiu-Jitsu Con and the American Nationals earlier this year, and most recently captured the Pan Championship title.  In her three Pan matches, Lara submitted every opponent from a unique position, showcasing her high-level armbar system.  Javiera Zuñiga and Gabriela Mendanha present the most significant threats, though Lara remains the frontrunner for gold this year.  Cementing herself as a true submission artist, Lara’s No-Gi Worlds run is a must-watch event.

Isadora Friedlander

The Unity Jiu-Jitsu product is set to compete in the Female Lightweight division at the 2025 No-Gi Worlds.  Isadora presents a well-rounded game with solid standing, passing, and guard technique, highlighted by an impressive armbar system she used to submit every opponent en route to her 2025 Pans gold. Isadora aims to win her first No-Gi World Championship with her submission-oriented style, while Madison Taggart and AOJ’s Maria Golden pose the most significant threat to derailing Isadora’s championship run.

Andressa Simas

The Atos representative, Andressa, leverages exceptional athleticism and physicality to dominate her matches.  The 2024 World no-gi silver medalist returns to the middleweight division with her sights set on the top of the podium.  Andressa showcased a technical arsenal en route to Pan No-Gi gold this year. Her game is characterized by a combination of impressive takedowns and explosive submission threats, frequently overwhelming her opponents.  Andressa has cemented her position as one of the most exciting female colored belt prospects.

Ana Arouca

Ana Arouca joins the highly competitive middleweight bracket, aiming to continue her impressive 2025 campaign.  Ana, the #4 ranked female gi competitor, had an impactful gi season that saw her capture Brasileiro gold alongside World and Pan Championship silver medals.  Her no-gi season has included multiple double-gold performances and a top-20 ranking among no-gi athletes.  Andressa Simas is another favorite in the middleweight division with her eyes firmly set on a World Championship title. Fans can anticipate an exciting match should these two elite competitors meet in mid-December.

Livia Felix

The Female Heavyweight division is headlined by Silva, the 2025 Sul-Americano and Brasileiro Champion.  The Demian Maia Jiu-Jitsu product utilizes impressive athleticism and keen submission instincts to control her matches.  Livia pursues her breakout moment at the 2025 World Championship. Fellow heavyweight, Emily Haase, presents a significant threat to derail Livia’s gold medal desire in what would be an exciting and physical matchup.

Yasmim Santos

The reigning double-gold World Champion, representing Alliance, returns to defend her titles.  Yasmim has very little left to prove at the purple belt level, despite being relatively inactive during the 2025 no-gi season.  The super-heavyweight champion utilizes her overwhelming physicality and top pressure to dismantle her opponents and unleash her high-level strangles.  The World Championship title is expected to pass through Yasmim as she seeks to repeat her purple belt glory from last year.
