Weekend Recap | Dallas & Teresópolis Opens

Standout Performers Capture the Jiu-Jitsu Spotlight Over the Weekend

Welcome back to IBJJF News, your source for the latest results and key highlights from across the global jiu-jitsu community.

This past weekend featured two events, the Dallas Winter Open in the United States and the Teresópolis Open in Brazil.

In Dallas, Carlos Neto of Rodrigo Pinheiro claimed double gold in the gi. He secured submission victories in both of his medium-heavyweight matches before adding three more wins in the absolute division to capture a second gold medal.

Gabriel Amorim of Six Blades earned lightweight gold in a talent-stacked division, while Pablo Lavaselli of AOJ captured the middleweight title after winning two hard fought matches.

In no-gi, Hunter Colvin delivered a dominant performance to secure double gold, finishing all of his matches by submission.

The Dallas Open featured a number of exciting juvenile prospects. Maya Padilla of LEAD BJJ secured a pair of gold medals across her four gi matches. Maya returned the following day for a single match in the medium-heavyweight division resulting in another gold medal performance, generating substantial momentum ahead of her Pans outing later this month.  Fellow LEAD BJJ juvenile athlete Eduardo Lozano secured his own double gold outing with four victories in gi competition. Kai McKinney captured double gold in the juvenile blue belt division, delivering a flawless performance in five matches.

Standout performances were littered across the color belt divisions in Dallas. Irux Almeida of GF Team secured brown belt double gold through six matches in the gi. 10th Planet competitor Jonathan Peper earned double gold in the purple belt no-gi divisions with five victories on the day. 

Meanwhile in Brazil at the Teresópolis Open, Giovanah Oliveira of Almeida Jiu-Jitsu won lightweight gold before adding three victories in the absolute division to claim her second title of the day. Her teammate, Elder Junior, also achieved double gold. The medium-heavyweight standout recorded three wins in his weight class and four more in the absolute division.

Gabriel Galvão and Leo Lara were two other notable champions at the event, each earning gold after winning both of their matches in their respective divisions.

A trio of Vision color belts impressed in the purple belt gi divisions.  Gustavo Berti captured open class gold, Rodrigo Dantas secured ultra-heavyweight gold, and Joao Vitor earned the middleweight crown. 

Game Fight Matriz athlete Larissa Nascimento captured double gold in the female purple belt gi divisions with five victories. Giovanna Bomfim of GF Team also secured five victories and a double gold performance in the blue belt gi divisions. 

Top juvenile talents earned gold medals in preparation for the Pans event later this month.  Yasmin Andrade, Agatha Azevedo, Anna Beatriz, Luis Felipe, Gabriel Salomao, and Angelus Duarte represent juvenile blue belt champions who will showcase their skills in Florida at the prestigious Pans event.

At the Teresopolis No-Gi Open, Darlan Casaca was the double gold champion, He finished three of his four fights en route to double gold. 

The Dallas Winter Open hosted kids gi divisions and the Teresópolis Open hosted both kids gi and no-gi divisions, giving the next generation of Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes the opportunity to test their skills on the competition mats.

Next up is the 2026 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships, the second major gi championship of the year. The event will take place March 25th through 29th at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida.
