Weekend Recap | IBJJF Grand Prix, Orange County & Curitiba Opens
Three Events Showcase Top Talent
Welcome back to IBJJF News, your source for the latest results and key highlights from around the global jiu-jitsu community.
This past weekend featured three events: the IBJJF Absolute No-Gi Grand Prix, the Orange County Winter Open, and the Curitiba Summer Open.
We’ll start with the Absolute No-Gi Grand Prix, where Victor Hugo of Six Blades Jiu-Jitsu claimed the title. Victor defeated three world-class opponents to secure the championship and the $50,000 grand prize. Gracie Barra’s Pedro Marinho was runner-up and secured a $10,000 prize.

In addition to the Grand Prix, the event featured eleven superfights. Black belt winners included Mateo Cardona, Ashlee Funegra, Sarah Galvao, Helena Crevar, and Cole Abate.
Following the GP, attention shifted to the Orange County Winter Open. Luiz Victor of Marcio Andre Jiu-Jitsu earned black belt double gold, winning two matches at medium-heavyweight and four more in the absolute division. Leticia Texeira captured the female open division after two tough matches and a closeout with her teammate Maria Alencar.

Sarah Galvao, Aghata Fernandes, and Yasmyn Castro also captured gold in Orange County just days after competing in superfights at the Absolute No-Gi GP.
Other notable black belt champions from the event include Tarcisio Santos, Marcos Gomes, Cleber Sousa, Fabyury Khrysthyan, and Paulo Merlin in the male divisions. The female divisions witnessed Lillian Marchand, Mariana Rolszt, and Maria Alencar all take gold in their respective divisions.
Top color belt prospects completed an action packed week of competition with superfight matches on the Grand Prix card and gold medals just days later in the Orange County Open. Notable performances from Mick Whelan, JP Tran, Johnny Anderson, and Evan Duncan earned them open titles.
The overall team rankings from the Orange County Winter Open saw CheckMat take gold, with Gracie Barra shortly behind, and AOJ securing third place.
In Brazil, the Curitiba Summer Open delivered standout performances of its own. Ingridd Alves of BJJ College competed in both gi and no-gi, winning seven matches in total. She secured heavyweight gold in the gi along with both gi and no-gi absolute titles.

Luis Cantareira and Rider Zuchi of Team 6 BJJ also impressed in Curitiba. Luis earned double gold with five wins across ultra-heavyweight and the absolute, while Rider won three matches to take heavyweight gold and advanced to the absolute final.
Other notable champions from the Curitiba Summer Open are Gabriel Galvao, Alex Sodre, Vinicius Liberati, Maria luiza, Andressa Guirau, and Giovanah Oliveira.
Youth divisions were a major highlight of the weekend as well, with more than 900 kids competing across the Orange County and Curitiba events, a strong reflection of the continued growth of jiu-jitsu at the youth level.

Next up is the 2026 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships, the second major gi championship of the year. The event will take place March 25–29 at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida.
