As more athletes continued to be announced for the IBJJF’s biggest professional event to date, the buzz around The Crown continues to build. With a lucrative prize pool and World Champion black belts, this event promises to showcase the pinnacle of talent in the sport. Among the elite athletes stepping onto the mats is Luiza Monteiro, an Atos Jiu-Jitsu representative who has more major championship gold medals than any other active adult black belt. As a 2-time World Champion, a 9-time Pan Champion, a 6-time Brasileiro Champion, and a 2-time European Champion, Luiza Monteiro is undeniably one of the most accomplished and decorated active competitors on the circuit. Luiza is now confirmed for The Crown's female 64 kg division, which also includes Brianna Ste-Marie, Janaina Lebre, and Nathalie Ribeiro. Although she came into the year already highly accomplished, 2023 was a career-defining year for Luiza as she secured major championship titles at the Europeans, Pans, and Brasileiros. Her black belt journey began back in late 2010, and over the past decade, she has consistently competed against the best athletes in the world, refining her skills and proving herself time and time again. Luiza’s only major championship loss in 2023 came to Brianna Ste-Marie at the 2023 Worlds, an opponent she defeated about a month earlier at the Brasileiros. What sets Luiza Monteiro apart is not just her impressive list of titles but also her unique and dynamic style of jiu-jitsu. Her ability to sweep and transition from dynamic passing to back attacks is a testament to her deep understanding of the art. The Crown is set to be a historic event, with the first ever 64 kg division guaranteed to be one of the most competitive of the day. Will Luiza add yet another illustrious title to her collection by becoming the first-ever 64 kg champion at The Crown? Find out on Sunday, November 19th live and in person.
